I’ve been using Surfer SEO for a while, and I absolutely love the tool. I recommend it quite frequently when friends and clients ask about how they can improve their SEO and rank higher for important keywords.
What is Surfer SEO?
SurferSEO is a tool that was created to help content creators create better content. Sounds meta right?
Well, it does just that. The tool will give you recommendations on what to include in your articles to make sure you’re covering a topic more fully.
They analyze your content against hundreds of “on-page” signals that search engines might use to determine which pages rank first, and which fall below the top 100 results on any given topic.

Why I Love Surfer: Their Content Editor is Top NOTCH
This tool has helped speed up my content creation process all over the place. I use it almost every day…I’m not joking.
Sometimes I write an article and import the content into Surfer to make sure I’ve covered the whole topic.
Other times I write directly in WordPress and let their content suggestions guide the outline and other content I’m creating.
On-page SEO is so critical for ranking these days, and using Surfer SEO vs other tools has proven more effective. I’ve even tried on-page.ai and found it to not be as robust when it came to the content editor.
Surfer’s Keyword Research Tool
While the content editor is the tool I use most frequently, Surfer’s keyword research tool is another great way to find ideas for articles I might not have thought of otherwise.
All you have to do is enter a keyword into the tool, and it will automatically suggest tons of similar keywords to write about or include in that article.
It also includes how similar the SERPs are. If the SERPs are too related, it might mean that Google sees those topics as one in the same and you could cannibalize your content by creating a new article around that topic.
Otherwise, similar SERPs could mean that you should be internal linking between those posts to show that you have fully rounded out the content library around that topic.
The Content Planner
Ever written so many articles on one topic that you kind of lose track and aren’t sure what else to write about? That’s where Content Planner comes in!
My Complaints
While I don’t have too many complaints about the tool, the one I’ve always found strange was that no matter what topic I’m writing on, the recommended “Headings” never has more than 5 in there. Now, some articles are recommended to be 3,000+ words, and include 30-45 headings.
But the recommendations never have more than 5.
Is SurferSEO Worth It?
If you’re already creating content and trying to rank better in search engines, I think you should definitely try out their lowest-tier plan at the very least. You get 10 content editors a month (which essentially means you can write 10 articles a month), for just $49.
If you don’t find value in the tool, please email me and let me know as I’ll happily walk you through and make sure you’re taking full advantage of it.
