Email marketing is a powerful tool for building your brand and growing an audience, as well as driving more sales. It allows you to communicate with customers easily, and can be used to drive sales, build trust and loyalty, and even acquire new customers.

There are many ways to collect leads from your website. You can use popups, slide-ins, or even forms; however, these methods are becoming less and less effective because of the high bounce rates they produce.

Leadboxes have proven to be one of the most effective tools for capturing emails and lead information from potential customers. They are an effective way of getting more leads for your business and they also look great on your website or blog.

But you will need to use a tool like Leadpages to get started with them.

What are Leadboxes?

Lead boxes are a tool that can help you generate leads and close sales. They have been proven to work, but only if they are implemented correctly. This blog post will provide you with some tips on how to use leadboxes for your business, as well as the psychology behind their effectiveness.

A leadbox is a way to capture email addresses and grow your list by offering a content upgrade.

Leadpages

I've been using Leadpages since 2015 and love it. The simplicity of being able to A/B test offers and the design of pages is great.

A great option for online business owners to setup great looking landing pages really quickly. Leadpages integrates with all kinds of 3rd party tools as well!

What is a Content Upgrade?

A content upgrade is a free piece of content you give to your readers who sign up for your email address. But it’s not a typical optin, because content upgrades are really about being relevant to that specific piece of content someone is reading.

For example, on this page about creating Leadboxes to grow your email list, I could offer a free course on How to Properly Setup Leadpages.

Or, I could give people a free download on 5 ways you can grow your email list FAST.

Content upgrades can be any kind of content, here are some examples:

  • A video course
  • A PDF download
  • Checklists and Templates
  • An email course
  • A video series
  • Evergreen webinar

There are so many options when it comes to content upgrades. But the key is that you are upgrading your content. Make sure whatever you are giving away makes sense and is something the reader would want.

I wouldn’t want to giveaway a free Facebook ads training on this page because it doesn’t really make sense in the context. Sure, some people might be interested in running Facebook ads, but it’s not going to get the high optin rates a content upgrade typically has.

What if you could offer an extra piece of content to your readers in exchange for their email address? It would be a lot like the lead magnets that are all over the internet, but it would be far more specific. Your strategy might include lots of different marketing angles, from PPC to cold calls.

That is exactly what a Leadbox can do for you.

How do I create a Leadbox in Leadpages?

Creating a Leadbox is pretty simple. Here are the steps you can use to create your own Leadboxes in WordPress.

1. Log into your Leadpages account

If you don’t have an account yet, you can grab a free 14-day trial here so you can follow along.

2. In the lefthand navigation, click on “Conversion Tools” and then “Pop-Ups” in the dropdown that appears

3. Click the purple “Create New Pop-Up” button in the top right corner

This will open up a new screen where you can name your Leadbox pop-up.

4. Name your Leadbox Pop-Up

Your visitors won’t see this name, it’s to help you identify it in your list of created Pop-ups. I like to title it with whatever the free thing I’m offering is, and then the page this will live on, and often times the date. Kind of like this:

“Leadpages Course – Leadbox Setup – 17MAR2021”

Once you give your Leadbox a name, go ahead and click “Continue”

5. Design your Leadbox

You can give it a name, add an image if you want to (I quickly made this one in Canva) and customize the button text to make it fit for your content upgrade.

6. Connect your Leadbox to your Email Provider

I use ConvertKit, which has a native Leadpages integration. If you use another platform, Leadpages will connect to most of them so it should be pretty straightforward.

7. Get the code to embed your button, link, or image

With Leadpages, you can decide if you want to use a link, button, image, timed pop-up or exit intent pop-up. Once you design the link or button or image, you click the “Get Code” button and it will give you the HTML code to embed this on your site.

8. Embed the pop-up on your website

If you’re using WordPress this is going to look like this:

9. You’re done! Test these below.
